Key configuration rules:
Standard glass panels (width ≤ 1.8 meters × height ≤ 1.2 meters)
Two pins per glass panel (top/bottom or side mounted) are sufficient for low wind areas.
For example:
A 1.2-meter-wide glass panel → requires 2 pins.
Large glass panels (width > 1.8 meters or height > 1.2 meters)
Three to four pins per glass panel are needed to distribute wind/impact loads.
Corner panels usually require additional reinforcement.
Key factors:
Wind loads (ASCE 7): Coastal/high wind areas require 50% more pins (e.g., 3 pins for a 1.5-meter-wide glass panel).
Glass Thickness: 15mm glass allows for greater spacing than 12mm glass.
Hardware Level: ASTM F2090 certified plugs define the maximum span per unit (typically 1.2-1.8 meters).
Consequences of inadequate engineering:
Panel flexure → stress cracks in glass.
Plug overload → bond failure to glass or column.
Non-compliance with pool codes (IBC 1607.7, AS 1926.1).
