What do glass head pins do?

Editor: View Mate All Glass Railing

Glass head pins, (lso known as glass bolts or countersunk spigots, are specialized fasteners essential for securing frameless glass pool fences. Unlike surface clamps, they are embedded within the glass, offering a minimalist aesthetic while providing strong structural support.

Core Functions and Technical Specifications:

1. Hidden Structural Anchoring:

   - Threaded pins are inserted into precisely drilled holes in the glass edges.

   - Bolt heads sit flush with the glass surface, ensuring a seamless appearance.

2.Load Distribution:

   - Wind and impact forces from glass panels are transferred to stainless steel posts or channels.

   - Epoxy filling around the bolts is required to prevent stress concentration and micro-cracks.

Material and Compliance:

   - 316 Marine-Grade Stainless Steel: Essential for corrosion resistance near pools.

   - ASTM F2090 Certification: Guarantees load ratings (typically 500–1,200 lbs per pin) that meet safety codes.

3.Installation Protocol:

   - Glass thickness must be ≥12mm (thinner glass may fracture during drilling).

   - Holes should be polished smooth and sealed with epoxy to prevent water intrusion.

Risks Associated with Substandard Pins:

   - Corrosion: Pins made from non-316 stainless steel can rust, weakening the anchor’s integrity.

   - Glass Fracture: Improperly drilled holes create stress points, leading to cracks.

   - Pull-out Collapse: Pins that are underrated can detach under load, causing panel failure.

Tip:

*Always use head pins with UV-stable epoxy (e.g., SikaFlex® 295). Silicone alone fails within two years when exposed to direct sunlight.
