When choosing a spigot for a glass railing system, the material of the spigot is an important consideration. SS304 and SS316 stainless steel spigots are both widely used, but the better option depends mainly on the project location and environment.
SS304 Glass Spigots
SS304 is a common choice for residential and commercial glass railing projects. It provides good corrosion resistance, strength, and a clean stainless steel appearance while offering a more economical solution for many inland applications.
For balconies, decks, staircases, and indoor glass railings in normal environments, SS304 glass spigots can be a practical choice.
SS316 Glass Spigots
For coastal areas, swimming pools, or projects exposed to high humidity and salt air, SS316 is generally preferred because it provides higher corrosion resistance than SS304.
Although SS316 usually costs more, its improved resistance to harsh environments can make it a better long-term choice for outdoor and seaside glass railing systems.
How to Choose the Right Spigot
The right choice depends on more than just price. Consider:
- Project location: Inland or coastal?
- Environment: Indoor, outdoor, poolside, or exposed to salt air?
- Glass thickness: Common options include 10 mm and 12 mm tempered glass, as well as laminated glass.
- Finish: Mirror, brushed, or matte black.
- Project requirements: Residential, commercial, balcony, deck, staircase, or pool fencing.
For example, an indoor staircase may not require the additional corrosion resistance of SS316, while a beachfront balcony can benefit from using SS316.
SG20 Stainless Steel Glass Spigot
The SG20 glass spigot is designed for applications including balconies, decks, pool fencing, staircases, and other frameless glass railing systems. It is available in SS304 and SS316, with round or square designs and multiple finish options.
Choosing the correct stainless steel grade at the beginning can help balance durability, appearance, and project cost over the long term.
